This book is a must-read for anybody who wants to learn
the history of Pit Bulls in the media. The author, Karen Delise,
has done exhaustive research on the history of "villain dogs" and how
the media has contributed to the image of these dogs.
Indy Pit Crew has developed a neighborhood focused program called Community Pet Day where we spend a Saturday providing low-cost or no-cost microchips and vaccinations for dogs and cats. Each Community Pet Day is centered in a neighborhood where residents may need financial assistance caring for their pets. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis has generously allowed Indy Pit Crew to use their facilities to host these fantastic neighborhood events! At these events, Indy Pit Crew provides FREEmicrochips for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes and $10 microchips for all other companion animals. Basic vaccinations are provided for all dogs and cats for just $10 while area veterinarians provide coupons for $10 rabies vaccinations at their nearby clinics. The goal of Indy Pit Crew is to microchip as many pets as we can to help with their safe return home, should they become lost. We are providing low-cost vaccination assistance to encourage pet owners to start a lifetime of healthy care for their companions!
To date, Indy Pit Crew has microchipped more than 600 of Indianapolis’ companion animals!
Low-cost or no-cost spay and neuter surgeries are also available at Community Pet Day. Pet owners can schedule a time to take their dog or cat to an area veterinarian for a very affordable (and sometimes even FREE) surgery. Indy Pit Crew loves to spay and neuter pit bulls and pit bull mixes!We also love Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana! SNSI has made it possible for hundreds of pit bulls and pit bull mixes (as well as countless other companion animals) to be spayed or neutered. With each surgery, we are one step closer to curbing the pit bull over-population issue. Shelters are full of these poor dogs resulting in 3,500+ being killed each year in Marion County alone. The euthanasia rate is not the fault of the shelters, they do everything they can to get these dogs adopted or placed in rescue. The problem is there are too many great dogs and not enough good homes. For this reason, Indy Pit Crew is dedicated to facilitating as many spay/neuter surgeries as possible.
